What will it take to prepare our current Wi-Fi networks for the Metaverse? The emerging class of rich media applications that will make up an immersive Metaverse experience will require substantial bandwidth, and we’re not there yet. Today’s networks aren’t built for the requirements of applications like virtual reality and light fields. The good news, however, is that we’re making progress. Already, major improvements in Wi-Fi capabilities are moving us closer to the goal by reducing delay, improving throughput and overcoming latency challenges. As these improvements expand Wi-Fi capabilities, we will move closer to the ultimate immersive experience envisioned by the Metaverse.
