If you’ve ever worked from home or guided a child through online learning, you’ve likely endured the frustration caused by an unstable internet connection at an inopportune time. You’re also probably familiar with frantically troubleshooting that unreliable connection and worrying about when it might happen again.
Now more than ever before, homes and businesses need to be online all the time—and they need to be able to count on a reliable connection. Just a few seconds of unexpected interruption in broadband service can set off a wave of inconvenience.
Imagine a world where you can automatically detect an internet interruption and seamlessly shift traffic from ALL of your Wi-Fi devices to your cellular hotspot without needing any manual intervention. Kyrio is pleased to announce such a solution for operators—an expansion of its Adaptive Route Control (ARC) product line called ARC Hotspot.
A New Solution for Improving Network Reliability
ARC Hotspot is a software solution that automatically enhances the flow of network communications throughout the ARC product line. It increases the reliability of broadband services for homes and businesses and—by leveraging existing smartphones on the customer premises as backup connections—requires no additional hardware connected to the home gateway. This unique, cost-effective setup offers broadband providers improved network reliability, which can translate to higher customer loyalty, lower churn, gains in market share and potentially higher revenue per customer.
ARC Mobile Optimizes Application Traffic
Last year, Kyrio announced its first ARC product, ARC Mobile, which monitors network performance and application traffic patterns in an effort to automatically route traffic to cellular if Wi-Fi becomes unreliable—and then back to Wi-Fi when service is working again. ARC Mobile is a flexible, software-only solution that doesn’t require modification to mobile devices or cellular and wired network infrastructures.
ARC Hotspot Automatically Activates Shift
ARC Hotspot extends the ARC product line with software on a broadband gateway that detects whether the wired network link is down and, if so, activates a hotspot on a paired smartphone, automatically shifting traffic to the cellular hotspot until the wired network is working again. The Wi-Fi devices in the home or business don’t need to be reconfigured. They stay connected to the gateway, and the gateway simply relays traffic to the cellular hotspot.
The ARC Hotspot agent can be added to the original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM’s) legacy and/or new devices and enabled through a simple firmware update. A streamlined customer experience can be made possible by integrating the ARC Hotspot mobile app’s software development kit (SDK) within the operator’s customer care app.
Kyrio provides software for gateways and mobile devices to manage the use of the smartphone hotspot as a failover option for any fixed broadband connection. ARC Hotspot is now available for licensing to gateway manufacturers and network operators.
