When connectivity and quality are poor, users are responsible for manually troubleshooting and switching to a better quality connection. This poor customer experience is due to network operators having little control of which traffic is routed over Wi-Fi or cellular networks.

This provides optimal customer experience by freeing users from improving their own network connectivity, reducing churn and creating happier and more loyal customers.

Significant Cost Savings:

With ARC, operators can automatically route traffic over the lowest cost network (either Wi-Fi or 4G/5G). This ensures that they avoid unintended routing over more expensive facilities, enabling them to stay competitive and maintain operational efficiencies. No equipment needs to be purchased since this service lives on the ARC cloud and app.

2018 PWC Consumer Intelligence Series 5G Survey shows that “roughly one-third [of broadband customers surveyed] said that reliability was a ‘must-have’ for internet access” and that “performance drops were a stronger concern than any other factor, though security, speed and cost efficiency each came up as important.”

CableLabs’ research shows that when mobile customers perceive a poor quality of experience, 64 percent feel the need to manually troubleshoot their network connectivity—and they believe the quickest and most effective solution is to turn off Wi-Fi and rely solely on the cellular network. Unfortunately, this behavior causes operators direct and indirect losses.

How ARC Works:

  • Identifies the best performing network:

    The network-probing algorithms and crowd-sourced approach used by ARC are able to find the best network at all times based on traffic measurements. ARC uses the combined information from all users connected to the system and utilizes this information to decide if, how and when to switch traffic to any available network. The solution works on the existing 4G/LTE networks and 5G networks.

  • Provides application type policy control:

    Operators can set ARC traffic routing policies for each application type’s traffic. This is accomplished by applying classification algorithms to categorize application traffic without requiring any deep packet inspection. This module builds application traffic profiles that let operators craft unique per-application policies.

  • Creating session continuity:

    As routing policies dynamically adapt to the changing network performance traffic is seamlessly routed from one network to another implementing a “make before break” approach that provides session continuity to real-time applications like videocalling.

  • Contains lightweight client components:

    ARC leverages a client-server architecture where an application is installed on the mobile device and the server is hosted anywhere that it is convenient for the operator. Server components can be hosted on the same hardware, separate hardware, in the operator data center, or third-party cloud. ARC was built to work in any of these environments. Plus, ARC is designed for efficiency (battery consumption and data overhead), scalability and security.

  • Providing flexible operator customization:

    The ARC architecture leverages a scalable modular design. It can accommodate any operator’s needs because the policies are designed so that new modules can be developed as needed. For example, operators are able to define routing policies based on application or application type, product offering, service tier, or application requirement and to embed business rules in the policies such as “if Wi-Fi is good enough use Wi-Fi for streaming apps when on a roaming network.”

  • Future-Proof:

    While still being an over-the-top solution, ARC’s flexible architecture allows for integration with emerging wireless standards  (e.g. 3GPP ATSSS) as they become available.
