Last week at Summer Conference 2017 in Keystone, Colorado, CableLabs unveiled its vision for the future with its short video, The Near Future, A Better Place.
In case you missed it, you can watch the video below.
This year’s video showcases that it’s not what we create, but why. What’s more incredible than the future technology itself is what can be made possible. Future technologies will truly change the way we connect and interact with one another and the world around us. In his keynote, CableLabs CEO Phil McKinney made the case to “innovate with a purpose” when creating new technologies, which set the tone for the entire show.
As a subsidiary of CableLabs, Kyrio is always working towards our mission; to be the world’s most reliable innovation resource. We deliver technology solutions for safer, better and faster ways to network, so businesses and their customers can thrive.
Summer Conference was a great way to step back and reflect on the impact that Kyrio has on the industry and to our customers. Our staff recently shared their reflections about the event and the Near Future video. Here’s what they had to say.
Bringing the Industry Together to Look Out & Beyond
Mitch Ashley, President and General Manager at Kyrio, felt that Summer Conference this year had diversity of speakers, challenging and thought-provoking session topics and breadth of representation from technology partners and operators.
“I was struck by the diversity of attendees, which included network engineers and technical leadership, but also those in strategy, business intelligence, information technologies and field operations. Many were newcomers who were taking on new job roles and noted that Summer Conference accelerated their onboarding into the industry. Summer Conference really brings the industry together to look out and beyond,” Mitch said.
Delivering Solutions of Value & Simplicity
Jen Shelby, VP of Online Services at Kyrio thought that the Near Future video was a great example of the expectations that users will face in working with new technologies.
“As our customers require greater services to the home, we are focused on finding the best solutions that deliver value and simplicity,” Jen said.
This year’s Summer Conference is a great reminder that customers expect technology to work out of the box, and the industry is continually working on different ways to achieve that.
Where IoT Security is Headed Next
No one could miss IoT implications that were raised in the Near Future video either. Ron Ih, Director of Business Services at Kyrio had a lot to say about where IoT is headed next.
“The Near Future video not only illustrated the vast benefits that IoT can provide to everyday users, but also showed what work we need to do to make that a reality. Of course, I’m concerned with security and privacy, but what overlies all of that is usability. If security is done properly, you shouldn’t really notice that it’s there. In day-to-day usage, security should just take care of itself and the user is solely concerned with what they want to accomplish. In order to achieve that, a lot of things need to be pre-baked into the solution throughout the entire value chain from the security infrastructure, to the chip maker, to the device vendor to the service provider,” Ron said.
Kyrio Provides a Space for Growth & Innovation
“The Kyrio facilities are large enough to generate ample space for new ideas and personal growth, but also small enough to directly connect with your partners, expand insights, and open new doors,” Jason said. Jason is our newest Director at Kyrio and heads up Testing Services and found the conference to be highly motivated in delivering quality services focused on solving customer’s problems.
The Near Future really is around the corner, and Kyrio is creating a path for customers to join us on the journey.
“Several attendees mentioned that Summer Conference is focused right where I’m headed next rather than just where I am today. That’s really the aim for Kyrio — to illuminate paths our customers can pursue. Customers look to Kyrio as a trusted innovation resource, solving tough problems and helping customers make challenging decisions. It’s a role we relish,” Mitch said.
